Australia: Global Tech Policy Atlas Remarks from our Champion the Hon. Tim Watts MP

We were excited to have the Hon. Tim Watts MP, Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs, launch our global Tech Policy Atlas.

A joint initiative of the Tech Policy Design Centre the Australian National University and University College London, the Global Tech Policy Atlas is a new public repository of tech policy, strategy, legislation and regulation. It currently spans over 36 jurisdictions and has over 2000 records, and its growing! Its purpose is to assist policymakers and researchers compare different approaches and conduct evidence-based independent research to inform better tech policy design.

The Atlas is a living database. We have future-proofed it with web-archive links and PDFs (goodbye broken links!). We invite contributions from users to expand and update it. Our easy-to-use submission form allows visitors to submit updates or new policies, so if you have any suggestions, please let us know! Your contributions will help grow the dataset and make it the one-stop site for everything tech policy.

It’s a resource for everyone that works in tech policy. So check it out, contribute to it, and make it your own! And, please, help us to spread the word!

“Technology is global. We regularly speak of the need for international harmonisation of tech policy. But, until now, there hasn’t been a public repository of tech policy. The Tech Policy Atlas changes all of that. …Governments the world over are looking for best practice examples and scholarship to guide their practice. So I encourage you to engage with the Atlas. Add to it. Do research with it. And bring your research findings and solutions to politicians and governments around the world.”
