To inform rapid national and international action at the frontier of AI development

Last week the Tech Policy Design Centre (TPDC) at the Australian National University hosted the UK Cabinet Secretary and Head of the UK Civil Service, Simon Case, for a roundtable on AI Safety.

The meeting was a to unique opportunity to be briefed on and provide input into the UKs forthcoming AI Safety Summit. The summit brings together key countries, as well as leading technology organisations, academia and civil society to inform rapid national and international action at the frontier of AI development.

Professor Johanna Weaver, founding Director TPDC believes AI safety is a critical issue which will require collaboration across borders. “Working with our allies to ensure AI regulation is fit for purpose and supports citizens around the world is critical.”

“AI has the ability to be a huge economic driver for the Australian economy, equally without fit for purpose regulation, there are some very real risks.”

“At the Tech Policy Design Centre, we believe that it is possible to shape a future in which people, technology and the planet thrive. But, to do that, we need to get much better at designing and implementing effective technology policy and regulation.”

“This roundtable provides an opportunity where we can collaborate and learn from best practise as well as show Australian leadership to the global community about how to best tackle emerging AI threats and opportunities.”

“TPDC is proud to host this group of leaders from across the UK Government, Academia and the wider technology sector.”
